What is the importance of seeing an Oral Surgeon?

At Hartsdale Dental Care, we take pride in the quality of the dental services we provide to our patients. Even when it comes to oral surgeries, we make sure our patients are getting high quality, yet comfortable dental experience. Oral surgeries may not sound as exciting to any patient but there are cases that require oral surgery to improve and save a patient’s oral health condition. These procedures are crucial when it comes to saving and preserving your teeth, overcoming congenital conditions, managing serious oral health diseases and trauma related damages.

What are some of the procedures that an Oral Surgeon perform?

Here are some of the most commonly performed oral surgeries at our office:

WISDOM TOOTH EXTRACTION

If you have an impacted wisdom tooth, this may sometimes lead to a permanent damage to your gums, adjacent teeth and the supporting bone structures. If this is not addressed, it can possibly result in the formation of cysts or tumors and can even damage some parts of the jaw. This is the time when you would require the impacted wisdom tooth to be removed.

BONE GRAFTING

Bone grafting is a surgical procedure done to correct problems with joints or bones which are damaged due to trauma or gum infections. It restores lost bone using either artificial grafts or natural grafts.

TOOTH EXTRACTIONS

Tooth extractions are performed in instances when a damaged tooth can no longer be saved by medications or other procedures like root canal treatment. If a tooth has also been badly broken that it cannot be fixed anymore, then it also needs to be pulled out. Sometimes, there is a need for an extraction when the tooth has been poorly positioned in the mouth and the mouth needs to be prepared for an orthodontic treatment.

TMJ DISORDER

The temporomandibular joint is the joint that connects your jaw to your skull and when a damage happens to this joint or if there is an injury, it leads to a disorder called TMJ disorder. A surgery has to be performed in order to correct the problem.

CLEFT LIP AND PALATE

These conditions normally happen when there is an abnormal growth of some of the portions of the mouth or nasal cavity during fetal development. This results in a gap or split in the upper lip or roof of the mouth. In order to get this corrected, a surgery is usually performed.
